"Since I have benefited from the programs that advocates before me fought and lost their lives for, I feel that I should do my part to advocate for my needs and those of persons who are unable to speak for themselves."

Advocacy

What is advocacy?

ADVOCACY n.  The act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, idea, or policy; active support.

The Spokane AIDS Network (SAN) is a tireless voice for persons living with HIV/AIDS in Eastern Washington and throughout our state, helping to ensure that local, state and federal governments all support funding and policy decisions that reduce new infections, increase testing and provide widespread access to treatment and support services.

SAN's Client Advocate provides one-on-one and group education and support for persons living with HIV/AIDS in our community. The main goal of the Client Advocate is to maximize consumer knowledge and reduce barriers and gaps in services to help improve health outcomes and empower individuals. SAN's Client Advocate organizes and facilitates the monthly Positive Living Support Group (link for this service described else where) and annual Consumer Voices Training.
